Range of application

Sulphuric acid is widely used in various sectors of industry. It is used as a relatively strong and cheap acid as a dehydrating, oxidizing and sulphonating agent, for treatment of gasoline, kerosene and mineral oils. It is designed for the production of fertilizers, artificial fiber, aminocaproic lactam, titanium dioxide, ethyl alcohol, aniline coloring agents and a variety of other industries.

Technical features

Transparent heavy oily liquid with a strong odor. It evaporates slowly in the air. Pure sulphuric acid is colorless, impurities tint technical sulphuric acid yellowish-brown. The concentration of sulphuric acid is determined by monohydrate level or density. Mixing of sulphuric acid with water is accompanied by a big thermal effect, emission of vapors and gases. It has a destructive effect on organic substances, causes severe eye irritation, up to blindness, corrodes the skin, causes its ulceration, burns; it has a corrosive effect on many metals. Sulphuric acid is a nonflammable fire-resistant liquid. Dilute sulphuric acid dissolves metals with hydrogen emission; concentrated acid causes the self-ignition of flammable substances.
