Natural chalk is used for production of mixed feed and mineral feed of farmed animals and poultry. It is white amorphous powder, insoluble in water, odorless and tasteless.
Natural chalk consists of calcium carbonate (96%), which is necessary to animals for regular formation of bone tissue. Besides, it increases the strength of egg shell. Chalk contains also minor impurities of magnesium carbonate and ferric (III) and aluminum oxides.
Oral doses of chalk (g/animal): cows and horses 10–50; sheep 3–10; pigs 2–3; poultry 10–20 g/kg of feed.
