Synonyms: cooking salt, sodium salt
Chemical formula: NACl
International name: SODIUM CHLORIDE
CAS No.: 7647-14-5
Grade: import, CP, GOST 4233-77
Appearance: white crystals or powder
Sodium chloride is white crystals. Sodium chloride forms crystals with cubic symmetry. It is sparingly soluble in water, solubility little depends on temperature: solubility coefficient of NaCl (per gram per 100 g of water) is 35.9 at 20°С and 38.1 at 80°С. Solubility of sodium chloride decreases significantly in the presence of hydrogen chloride, sodium hydroxide, salts – metal chlorides. It is soluble in liquid ammonia, enters into exchange reactions.
Production
Sodium chloride (NACl) is known in everyday life as cooking salt, which is its main component. Sodium chloride is abundant in sea water creating salty taste. In nature, it occurs as halite minerals (rock salt).
