Synonyms: sulphoamidic acid, amidosulfonic acid
Chemical formula: H2NSO3H
International name: SULFAMIC ACID
CAS No.: 5329-14-6
Grade: Import, pure, TU 6-09-2437-79
Appearance: white powder
Sulphaminic acid (amidosulfonic acid) is colorless rhombic crystals. It is soluble in water, organic solvents. When heating up to 260°C, it is decomposed to SO2, SO3, N2 and H2O. At a room temperature, sulphaminic acid does not virtually undergo hydrolysis.
Production
- In industry, sulphaminic acid is produced by interaction of urea with SO3 and H2SO4: NH2CONH2 + SO3 + H2SO4 : 2NH2SO3H + CO2.
- Sulphaminic acid can be produced by interaction of urea with ClSO2OH, SO2 with NH2OH or SO3 with NH3 in anhydrous medium, etc.
Application
Sulphaminic acid is used as follows:
· for cleaning industrial apparatuses and equipment (a component of antiscale agents),
· in chemical industry, for addition of groups SO3H and NHSO3H to organic compounds,
· in textile industry,
· as standard substance in acidimetry, for determination of nitrite-ions,
· as cleaning, washing and disinfecting agent in food and milk industries (during sanitary treatment of equipment for removal of carbonate deposits, milk, beer or wine stone, etc.).

Sphere of application
Acids are substances that contain one or several hydrogen atoms, which, in chemical reaction, are likely to be substituted with metal atoms forming salts. Acids happen to be strong and weak, depending on dissociation. Typical properties of all acids are acid flavor and lacmus staining red. Acids have been known since ancient times. They are widely used in human everyday life.
