Technical perchloroethylene is a colorless clear liquid without emulsified and suspended particles, slightly soluble in water. A characteristic odor spreads in the air at a concentration of about 5 ppm (parts per million), i.e. olfactory threshold. Given odor habituation, occasionally olfactory threshold gets higher some minutes later.

Perchloroethylene is a universal solvent, used for metal purification in mechanic engineering, instrument making industry, when treating photopolymer printed boards, in production of needles for disposable syringes, in textile, wood industry, in production of freons and reactive dyes. Perchloroethylene is an effective agent for garment dry cleaning.
