Malachite Green

Belkhim OJSC offers phenolphthalein and other chemical indicators: bengale red, dimethyl yellow, dithizone, cupferron, malachite green, methylene blue, methyl red and orange, pyrogallol, chrome dark blue, erychrome black. Introduction of chemical indicators into the test solution allows for establishing chemical reaction end point or pH of the solution by easily remarkable sign (discoloration, turbidity appearance or disappearance, luminescence, etc.). Chemical indicators are primarily used in titrimetric analysis for establishing equivalence point (titration end point).

Malachite green (benzal green) is a synthetic diaminotriphenylmethane dyer, green and yellow crystals with a metallic luster, very soluble in water and alcohol.

Production:

Malachite green (benzal green) is produced by condensation of benzaldehyde with dimethylalanine in the presence of HCl followed by leuco base oxidation and treatment of the compound formed with oxalic acid.

Application:

Malachite green (benzal green) is widely used as follows:

• for indirect determination of P, W, sulphites, as a reagent in microbiology,
• in microscopy for intravital staining of cell nucleuses,
• for staining erythrocytes, ascarid eggs,
• as a drug product, in particular, during treatment of aquarium fish from infectious diseases, etc.
