ML-12 and ML-12K Enamels

ML-12 enamel to GOST 9754-76

ML-12 “K” enamel to TU RB 00204547.089-2000

Type: baked enamels based on alkyd resin modified with castor (ML-12 enamel) and coco (ML-12 “K” enamel) oils and melamine-formaldehyde resin.

Sphere of application: they are intended for painting the preliminary primed or primed and plugged metallic surfaces of products to be operated both outdoors and indoor. Main purpose: painting of automobiles.

Properties: ML-12 “K” enamel excludes formation of the moire-type surface defects. ML-12 and ML-12 “K” enamels ensure the obtaining of highly-glossy decorative coating with excellent protective properties. In comparison with ML-12 enamel, the ML-12 “K” one has increased film hardness and luster. The coating system consisting of two layers of ML-12 and ML-12 “K” enamels applied to phosphatized surfaces preserves the protective and decorative properties under conditions of the temperate and cold climate for 5 years. In the tropical climate, such coating system preserves its protective and decorative properties for 1 year. The enamel film is resistance to variation of temperatures from minus 60°C to plus 60°C. The warranty period is 24 months from the date of manufacture for ML-12 “K” enamel and 12 months from the date of manufacture for ML-12.

Surface preparation: the surface to be painted shall be preliminarily cleaned from corrosion using abrasive cloth and degreased using a solvent.

Coating application: prior to application, the enamels shall be stirred thoroughly. The enamel can be diluted with 647, 650 thinners or solvents in the quantity of up to 25% of the enamel mass. Should the painting be performed by air-stream atomization; the enamel shall be diluted to working viscosity. The enamels shall be applied by means of a spray gun in two layers or in a single layer over the old coating. If small areas are to be painted, the enamels can be applied by means of a brush. In case of painting in the electric current, the ML-12 and ML-12 “K” enamels shall be diluted with the RE-1V, RE-2V thinners to the viscosity of (18-22) s as measured by means of the V3-246 viscosimeter (4 mm nozzle) at the temperature of (20.0±0.5)°C. The intermediate drying between the layers will take 5-7 min at the temperature of (20±2)°C and the final drying will take 35 min at 130-135ºС.

The enamel consumption for a single-layer coating is 70-100 g/m2. The enamel consumption depends on complexity of the surface to be painted, coating thickness and enamel color.

Safety precautions: when performing the painting works as well as after finishing them, it is necessary to ventilate the room thoroughly. Keep the enamels in a tightly closed container ensuring the protection against moisture and direct sunlight. Keep away from fire!
