Sphere of application: “PrimeLid” and “PrimeLid T” (thixotropic) fast-drying primers are intended for priming metal and wooden surfaces for coating with various enamels (pentaphthalic, melamine alkyd, perchlorvinyl, etc.), as well as for temporary protection from corrosion in a single-layer coating of large metal structures for the period of mounting and storage.
Type: the primers are suspension of anticorrosive pigments and fillers in alkyd phenolic varnish with addition of solutions and various additives.
The primers shall be packaged as per GOST 9980.3, group 5, into metal cans with the capacity of 1 l, 2 l, 3 l, 5 l, 10 l, 20 l (net weight of 1 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg, 20 kg), metal flasks with the capacity of 40 l (net weight of 40 kg) and metal drums with the capacity of 45 l (net weight of 45 kg).
Packaging into containers of other kinds according to applicable technological regulations is allowed provided such containers ensure safekeeping of the primers during transportation and storage.
Surface preparation: prior to application of primers, metal surface shall be thoroughly cleaned of rust, scale and other impurities, degreased and dried. To enhance the protective properties, the preliminary sandblasting (shot blasting) of the surface to deoxidation standard 1–2 (GOST 9.402) is recommended. Prior to application of primers, old coating shall be finished, washed with solvent (naphtha as per TU RB 100006485.148 or white spirit as per GOST 3134) and dried. To avoid moisture condensation, the temperature of the coated surface shall exceed the dew point temperature by at least 3°С.
Prior to application of primers, wooden surface shall be thoroughly finished with grit cloth and freed from dust. Prior to application of the coating layer of enamel, primed surface shall be finished.
Recommendation for application: “PrimeLid” primer shall be applied by air-stream spraying, brush or pouring.
Before application, mix the primer thoroughly and dilute with 1:1 mixture of white spirit (S4 150/200 nefras) with xylene (orthoxylene as per TU 38.101254) or xylene (orthoxylene), or solvent in the amount of 0–20% depending on method of application. Apply the primer onto the prepared surface in 1–2 layers.
Drying time of a 15–20 μm-thick single-layer coating at a temperature of (20 ± 2)°С shall be no more than 45 min. Drying of a single-layer coating at a temperature of (85 ± 5)°С for 10 min is acceptable. Application of a double-layer coating by the “wet over the wet” method with intercoat drying of the first layer for at least 10 min is acceptable.
Recommendation for application: “PrimeLid T” primer shall be applied by the airless spraying method or brush.
Before application, mix the primer thoroughly, dilute, if necessary, with 1:1 mixture of white spirit (S4 150/200 nefras) with xylene (orthoxylene) or xylene (orthoxylene), or solvent in the amount of 0–5%.
The primer may be applied with thickness of wet coating up to 300 μm without streaks.
Consumption of primers per a single-layer coating shall amount to 60–100 g/m2.
Safety precautions: when performing the painting works as well as after finishing them, it is necessary to ventilate the room thoroughly. The persons involved in performance of the painting works shall be provided with personal protective equipment (overalls, protective goggles and rubber gloves).
After the intended use of the primers, the containers with the product residues shall be closed tightly with appropriate closures and sent to the garbage dump.
Warranty period of primers: 6 months from the date of manufacture.
