Type: phosphatizing corrosion-preventing primer based on polyvinylbutyral. It is delivered in two components: primer base (semimanufactured product) and acid diluent.
Sphere of application: the VL-02 primer is intended for priming metal surfaces prior to application of paints and varnishes as well as for using instead of phosphatizing and oxidizing. It is used for priming the articles prior to application of alkyd, alkyd-melamine, epoxy, perchlorovinyl and polyurethane enamels. It is not used for priming cast iron.
Properties: on steel, the VL-02 primer is overcoated with corrosion-inhibiting primers, such as GF-0119, “PrimeLid” or PF-031, EP-045, EP-045Т. In case of application of the VL-02 primer for epoxy enamels, it is allowed not to overcoat this primer with other corrosion-inhibiting ones. To improve the corrosion-inhibiting properties, it is allowed to dope the VL-02 primer with 5-7 weight parts of aluminum powder per 100 weight parts of the primer base (semimanufactured enamel). Aluminum powder shall be introduced after mixing the base with the acid diluent and then the mixture shall be brought to the working viscosity. The VL-02 primer with aluminum powder is used for priming all metals except for aluminum and its alloys. The primer shall be deposited at temperatures from minus 10°C to plus 30°C.
Surface preparation: the surface to be painted shall be degreased, dry and clean. Surface preparation: as per GOST 9.402. Coating application: immediately prior to application, the primer base (semifimished product) shall be stirred thoroughly. Then prepare the primer by mixing the base (semimanufactured enamel) and acid diluent in proportion of 4:1 by weight. Hold the primer for 30 min and dilute it with the RFG solvent (GOST 12708) to the working viscosity 16-20 s as measured by means of the VZ-246 viscosimeter (4 mm nozzle) in case of application by air-stream and airless spraying; in case of application by means of a brush, the primer shall have the outlet viscosity of 20-35 s. It is allowed to dilute the VL-02 primer with 648 (GOST 18188) or Р-6 solvents, toluene (GOST 14710 and 9880) or xylene (GOST 9949). When diluting the primer, no mixing of the above solvents is allowed.
The primer shall be used within 8 hours (at a temperature of 20 to 30°С), because it will lose its properties after expiration of this time. The useful life of the primer is 24 hours at temperatures from minus 10°С to 10°С and 8 hours at a temperature from 10°С to 20°C. The primer shall be applied to the surface by the air-stream or airless spraying or by means of a brush at temperatures minus 10 to plus 30°C. The thickness of a single primer layer is 8 -10 μm.
The consumption of the VL-02 primer is 100-120 g/m2 per layer when applying it by air-stream spraying; 95-110 g/m2 when applying it by airless spraying and 80-95 g/m2 when applying it by means of a brush.
The time of holding of the coating with the VL-02 primer before subsequent applications of paints and varnishes is no more than 14 days and the minimum time of holding is 30 min.
Safety precautions: when performing the painting works as well as after finishing them, it is necessary to ventilate the room thoroughly. Keep away from fire!
Guaranteed shelf life of the vase and acid diluent: 12 months from the date manufacture.
