Edible ammonium carbonate (volatile salt, ammonium bicarbonate) is white crystalline substance of the following composition: ammonium bicarbonate (on dry basis) – min. 99%, volatile salt (on dry basis) – max. 1%, water – max. 3%.
It is used in food industry in production of flour confectionery as a chemical baking powder (Е503) instead of edible volatile salt.
Applications
- in organic synthesis and dying technologies,
- in production of chemicals,
- in sink-float processes,
- in tanning of chrome leather,
- in food industry in bread baking and confectionery,
- in agriculture as a fertilizer (especially effective for potatoes, vegetable and feed cultures) and feed preservative.
Possesses unique denitrifying properties – slows down or completely stops the process of soil nitrifying promoting increased ripening and yield.
When using salts as preservatives putrification processes stop in the mass (feed grain of increased moisture, milled corn, silo, hailage, hay, moist flax, etc.), high preservation of nutrients is ensured, nitrate content and active acidity of feeds are reduced.
