Nickel chloride, 6-hydrate (nickelous chloride) is a light to green crystalline powder. In humid air, it spreads, and in dry air, it deflates. In the light, it becomes light blue.
Application
Nickel chloride, 6-hydrate NiCl2 • 6H2O (Nickel chloride, 6-hydrate (II)) is used as follows:
- as a component of electrolytes for Ni refining and for nickel coating;
- for production of Ni powder;
- as a catalyst for organic compound chlorination, etc. Anhydrous NiCl2 is used as a component of thermosensitive paints.
