Appearance:
White crystalline powder
Ethylene diamine tetracidic acid (EDTA, Trilon BS) is a white fine crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, insoluble in majority of organic solvents, soluble in alkalines. EDTA is a tetrabasic acid, the most critical representative of complexons forming strong inter-complex compounds (chelates) with metal ions.
Production:
EDTA is produced by condensation of ethylene diamine with monochloracetic acid.
Application:
Ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA, Trilon BS) is used as follows:
- in analytical chemistry, allows for determination of 60 elements, in chemical industry;
- in medicine, EDTA is used for elimination of radioactive and toxic metals from the body, for blood preservation, etc.;
- in dentistry for endodontic treatment of canals;
- in food industry for quality improvement and products preservation, etc.
Ethylene diamine tetracidic acid (EDTA, Trilon BS) is widely used as salts: Trilon B, Trilon BD, etc. – in textile, leather, paper, paining industries, in production of metals, rubber, in color cinematography, for water softening and in other spheres.
