Tin chloride (tin chloride) 2-hydrate is colorless crystals in white mass, soluble in water and alcohol, ester, acetone. It oxidates in the air easily.
Production:
Tin chloride (tin chloride, tin salt) is produced by interaction of Sn with Cl2, HCl or chlorides of other metals.
Application:
Tin chloride is used as follows:
- as a catalyst of epoxide polymerization,
- as a reducer in organic synthesis,
- as a mordant when dyeing fabrics,
- for treating glass and plastic surfaces prior to metal coating for adhesion improvement,
- as flux component during welding,
- for production of Sn, as a reagent for determination of Сl2, I, Hg2+, Fe3+, etc.,
- for petroleum oil discoloration, etc.
